Originally from the Isle of Mann, UK, my journey into Early Childhood Education started whilst sat on the Pediatric Oncology ward at Alder Hey, with my own daughter on her own personal journey. It was at this time, I developed a profound belief in the strength and power of children’s innate potential and their capacity to shape their own learning, when provided with the right environment and guidance.
I earned my Early Childhood Educators Diploma (ECE, IT, SN) from the Isle of Mann College, rapidly followed by my Montessori certification from St. Nicholas Montessori College in Ireland and my M.Ed. Since then, I have dedicated myself to creating nurturing, child-centered classrooms where young minds can flourish.
My experiences have taught me that learning is not a one-size-fits-all process; each child is unique, and it is my responsibility to meet them where they are and guide them toward their fullest potential.
With over 25 years of experience as an educator, I bring a deep passion for fostering curiosity and independent thinking in young learners. My journey began in Summerland, where I completed most of my schooling, with formative years also spent in Saskatchewan and Drumheller, Alberta.
Exceptional elementary teachers ignited my love for learning, and this spark grew when my daughter (now an adult) enrolled in Ms. Marilyn Savoie’s Montessori home preschool in Summerland. The cozy, engaging classroom, filled with practical life activities, inspired me to pursue a career in education.
In 1999, I had the privilege of helping establish the preschool’s new space at the Harold Simpson Youth Centre, marking the start of an exciting chapter.
My path evolved into home education, where I taught my daughter and son, alongside developing community art lessons and creating curriculum plans and unit studies for young students.
In 2012, I pursued Early Childhood Education studies, complemented by courses in Abnormal and General Psychology and Art History, earning my full ECE certification in 2017. In 2021, I achieved a lifelong dream by obtaining my Montessori teaching diploma from the North American Montessori Centre.
My teaching philosophy aligns closely with Montessori principles, blended with the Reggio Emilia approach, emphasizing space, freedom, and time for children to explore and learn to their fullest potential. As a nature and art enthusiast, I create environments that inspire creativity and self-discovery.
Two quotes have guided me for decades: Plutarch’s “The mind does not require filling like a bottle, but rather, like wood, it only requires kindling to create in it an impulse to think independently and an ardent desire for the truth,” and Yeats’ “Education is not the filling of a pail but the lighting of a fire.” These words encapsulate my commitment to sparking a lifelong love of learning in every child.
I am a dedicated Early Childhood Educator with a passion for nurturing young minds. In December 2024, I earned my Early Childhood Education (ECE) certificate and began my journey as an educator in Canada. Prior to moving here, I worked as an Early Childhood Educator in my home country, Japan, where I discovered my love for fostering creativity and growth in children. Their boundless imagination and development inspire me every day.
My goal is to create a warm, safe, and inclusive environment where every child feels valued and free to express themselves. I believe in listening attentively to each child, supporting their unique needs, and guiding them at their own pace. By fostering a sense of belonging, I help children build confidence and a love for learning.
When I’m not teaching, I love staying active and connecting with nature. Running and hiking are my favorite ways to unwind and recharge. These moments outdoors fuel my energy and enthusiasm for working with children.
I have been working with children for over 30 years, most of them as a Private, British Nanny, after obtaining my Childcare Diploma from Norland College in Bath, UK.
I relocated to Canada in 1995, after being sought out to Nanny by a private family. My career eventually took me to work as an Educational Assistant for SD67, and now as an ECEa at The Learning Cove.
I enjoy reading, walking, hiking and spending time with my family and friends. I also enjoy camping, road trips and playing guitar, when I'm not learning and practicing my Italian.
I’ve had a wonderful experience for the past 30 years as an ECE in various environments and positions including owner and operator of 2 centers.
I spread my creativity through the Reggio Emilia approach to learning. I love experiencing the joy and excitement through children’s eyes every day!
My passions are my family and grandchildren. I’m so proud of them. I enjoy gardening, upcycling thrift finds and music. I hope to continue my work with children and families as it keeps me young in spirit and connected to our community.
